The surroundings of the Tri Vody resort offer many trails in the fall, from which we have selected 10 across the entire range of difficulty and type of experience: two accessible caves directly in the Demänovská Valley, three family walks with a view (Vrbické pleso, Háj-Nicovô, Čerenová skala), the gorge-like Kvačianska Valley known for its water mills, the Liptovská Mara reservoir with a dam wall and the Havránok archaeological open-air museum, the Liptov Village Museum in Pribylina, the Chopok - Ďumbier ridge route to the highest point of the Low Tatras, and a lesser-known walk under the Western Tatras with a view of Kriváň.
If you want to see Liptov from above, and if you don't feel like a too strenuous hike, Demänovská Hora is worth considering with an altitude of 1,299 meters above sea level. The hike is suitable for all levels of tourists, including physically fit children, and offers unforgettable panoramic views of the entire surroundings, relaxation in nature, and the opportunity to discover the rich fauna and flora of Liptov.

Underground world
There are two accessible caves managed by the Slovak Caves Administration directly in the Demänovská Valley.
Demänovská Cave of Freedom It measures 11,117 m and is the longest accessible cave in Slovakia. Both the basic route (1,150 m, 60 min, 913 steps) and the extended route (2,150 m, 100 min, 1,118 steps) have entrances during the day at regular intervals from 9:00 to 16:00. The temperature in the cave is 6.1 - 7 °C all year round. The entrance is located 400 m from the parking lot.
Demänovská Ice Cave lies in the northern part of the valley, access from the parking lot is a 15-20-minute walk with a slight climb. Glaciation has disappeared in recent years, we believe that it will return again in time. Underground passages have been documented since the 13th century. The cave is open only until 30.9.
Practically: both caves have timed, capacity-limited entry, usually, outside the high season the waiting time is shorter than in summer. In autumn, entrances are at 9:30, 11:00, 12:30 and 14:00, we recommend checking them on the website Slovak Cave Administration.

The magic of autumn nature
Three destinations around the Tri Vody resort combine minimal effort with striking views — ideal for an autumn morning or short afternoon when the light fades early.
Vrbické pleso is a national natural monument right in Jasná, at an altitude of 1,113 m above sea level (0.69 ha, max. depth 8 m). From the parking lot at the Pošta Hotel, a trail approximately 200 m long leads to the lake, also accessible with a stroller. The lake is connected to the Demänovská Valley educational trail — a 13.5 km circuit through the Zadná Vody valley and the Tri Vody signpost to Luková, the same trail used by ski mountaineers in winter.
Haj-Nicovô is a forest park above Liptovský Mikuláš at an altitude of 748 m above sea level, with a double character: a family zone with a playground suitable for strollers and the largest war cemetery of Czechoslovak soldiers in the territory of the former Czechoslovakia (1,415 graves, 1,369 fallen members of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps from the battles for Liptovský Mikuláš in 1945, today part of the Military History educational trail). Cherry Rock above the village of Liptovská Anna (30 min drive from Tri Vody) is with a route of 2 km / elevation gain of 300 m / 40 minutes to the top (1,006 m above sea level) one of the most undemanding trips in the region with a significantly above-average view-to-effort ratio. The start is at the parking lot at the ruins of the Church of St. Anne. Details about the location and routes are in another of our articles here.
Practically: All three are popular in autumn for the colors of the leaves and distant views without the summer fog — Háj-Nicovô also offers vast meadows suitable for flying kites.
Gorge with mills
The Kvačianska Valley in the Choč Mountains is a karst gorge with wooden lookouts above the canyon. The section between Kvačany and the functional water mills in Oblazy (from the first half of the 19th century, today a lively open-air museum) takes about an hour on foot, the nature trail has 12 stops. In dry weather, the route is also passable with a stroller.
Neighboring Prosiecka Valley is more technically demanding — ladders, chains and narrow rock passages to the Červené piesky waterfall, unsuitable with a stroller. Together, both canyons form a full-day circuit (Prosiek – Borové – Kvačany – Prosiek) in length of approximately 6 hours with an elevation gain of 940 m.
Practically: Parking is charged in both starting villages — the shorter one-way option (Kvačany – Oblazy and back) is sufficient for a family autumn walk.

A walk from the airport between Jamník and Jakubovany towards Račkova dolina — an easy path under the foothills of the Western Tatras with a continuous view across the Liptov Basin to Kriváň. In autumn, it is one of the most beautifully colored sections in the area.
The start of the route is 23 km away from Troch Vůd (by car), the route itself walk The gravel road with a slight incline is 6 km long in one direction up to Račkova dolina. bicycles the distance one way is 28 km.

Water and history
The Liptovská Mara reservoir was created in 1969–1975 by flooding 13 municipalities within the Váh water cascade. Its area of 27 km² and maximum depth of 43 m make it the second largest water body in Slovakia (566 m above sea level, between Liptovský Mikuláš and Ružomberok). A circular cycling route of 57 km / 906 m elevation (approx. 8 h) runs around the reservoir, parts of which are shared with cars — a separate safe cycling path around the entire reservoir has not yet been completed.
Alone dam wall is a destination even without a bike — the church tower of one of the flooded villages has been preserved there. Right on the peninsula by the dam, in Liptovská Sielnica, lies Havránok archaeological open-air museum — reconstruction of the Celtic hillfort of the Púchov culture, the only documented settlement of this culture in Liptov.
Practically: An autumn morning on the water, when the fog rises above the water and the Tatras are in the background, is one of the most requested shots of Liptov. Pribylina Open-air Museum
Living history
The open-air museum in Pribylina was created directly in connection with the construction of the Liptovská Mara dam — when the reservoir flooded 13 villages in 1969–1975, their most valuable buildings were moved here (continues with the Liptovská Mara section above). The foundation stone was laid in 1972, and the area has been open to the public since 1991. The area includes a Gothic-Renaissance mansion from the 14th century, a church, craft workshops, mills and granaries, along with dwellings across all social classes of the countryside — from the poorest keeper through peasants and craftsmen to mayors and yeomanry.
The area also includes Považská Forest Railway — a narrow-gauge railway (760 mm), the construction of which began before the First World War (approved in 1912, the first section opened in 1916). Originally it was mainly used for transporting wood, but it also transported forest workers; at its peak it measured over 109 km and was the second longest narrow-gauge railway in Slovakia. Operation ended in December 1972, the rolling stock was moved to the Liptov Museum and has been available there as a static exhibition since 2003. Historical trains run on the restored kilometer-long track — on weekends (9:00 - 17:30, seasonally) or during events, such as St. Hubert's Sunday.
Practically: This autumn, the open-air museum is hosting St. Hubert's Sunday — traditional hunting festivals under the patronage of Saint Hubert: exhibition of Slovak kopovs, ceremonial procession, Saint Hubert mass, demonstrations of game luring and hunting cynology, falconry performances, fashion show of hunting clothes and forest activities for children. It is usually held in September, in 2026 it is planned for September 21.
For experienced
The most demanding of the ten destinations leads directly from Demänovská Valley along the main ridge of the Low Tatras, across three peaks: Dereše (2,004 m), Chopok (2,024 m) and Ďumbier (2,043 m) — the highest point of the mountain range. The total length is 23 km with an elevation gain of 1,750 m, the net time with breaks is approximately 6 hours 40 minutes. The route offers simultaneous views of the Low, High and West Tatras.
Practically: The Chopok cable car will significantly shorten the route — the combination of "up by cable car, down or just to the ridge on foot" is a real alternative to the entire route.
